Corruption requires secrecy.
When people don’t have all the information, it is easy to be misled & be taken advantage of.
That’s why I love EVERLANE’s transformative approach to business. As a company they say they’re all for transparency, and then actually ARE transparent.
This helps you, the consumer know what exactly you’re getting, what you’re supporting with your money, and what quality product you can expect.
Let’s look at the men’s white V-neck tshirt (which is comfortable as hell, btw) as an example.
EVERLANE tells you how much they’re selling it for ($15) and what traditional retail pricing is for this kind of shirt ($45). The really cool part isn’t that the shirt is super inexpensive considering the quality product you’re getting. No, the really cool part is EVERLANE tells you exactly what it costs them to make the shirt!
Materials are $3, making it costs $4.25 in labor, and transporting it is $0.11, so the shirt takes around $7 to manufacture.
Now, when they’re charging $15 for a shirt, you know
- How much it costs to make it
- How much EVERLANE is making off the sale
- You’re not getting ripped off.
Sure, EVERLANE could be charging $45 for this shirt, and by not doing so they’re missing out on a significant amount of profit.
But they’re banking on the fact that there are good people in the world who are dedicated to investing in quality and will recognize their positive business practices and choose to support them based on their principles.
The only way to know you’re doing the right thing is to have all the information to make a good decision, and that’s why EVERLANE is adamant about giving the consumer all the relevant information.
When you know better, you do better, and that’s why I’m in love with EVERLANE’s radical transparency.
Consider supporting their bold move towards ethical business practices, and follow their lead. Think about how you could increase the amount of transparency in your life about who you are, and what you want out of life. Ask yourself what you’ve been hiding in your own life, and think about how you can move towards a life of integrity.
The more honest (another word for transparency) you are with yourself, and the people in your life, the better quality life you’ll live.
Buy one of their shirts and you’ll feel the proof.
